What is hosting?

Simply put, hospitality is the art of making people feel welcome and comfortable. Among many other things, hospitality involves:

  • Customer Service – How to Talk to and Listen to Guests.
  • Environment – For example, hours of operation, accessibility, and language skills.
  • Added value – When you give a guest something extra, something they weren’t expecting.

In our daily work in the tourism industry, we are all part of a whole chain of interactions. When we meet a guest, we automatically become ambassadors for the business we represent—such as a tourist destination or a hotel. But it’s important—and a bit mind-boggling to think about—that we simultaneously become ambassadors for so much more.

You might be the only person the guest meets during their visit to Örebro. In that case, you suddenly become a representative of the entire city and the public face of the overall experience our city offers. If the guest is from abroad, you similarly represent all of Sweden. Hospitality is therefore something we all share here, and something we all need to take responsibility for and cherish. Everyone is equally important! If we work together as one big team, we will collectively create fantastic experiences and ultimately exceed our guests’ expectations.

An important way to provide excellent hospitality and exceed guests’ expectations is to be well-informed about the destination and offer information about attractions beyond the one you represent.
