Guided tours
If you’re visiting Örebro Castle, we recommend joining the guided historical tour. It’s included in the admission ticket and makes your visit even more enjoyable. During peak season, the tour runs daily; during the off-season, it’s held on Saturdays and Sundays.
You can book other guided tours for a private group of up to 40 people. Here, too, you can choose the historical tour of the castle. Exhibitions and other events

The castle is a popular venue for various event organizers. Events range from electronic music on summer nights at the Chateau Festival, to classical music by the light of hundreds of flickering candles at the Candlelight Concerts, to the charity concert "Opera at the Castle," and much more.
Örebro Castle also serves as the backdrop for “Stad i ljus,” the concert that traditionally kicks off All Saints’ Day weekend and warms the hearts of thousands with its festive atmosphere, singing, and music.
Other annual and popular events at Örebro Castle include the Walpurgis Night celebration on April 30 and the New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31.
The Ghost Town at Örebro Castle
During the fall break, the castle takes on a slightly spookier atmosphere. That’s when “Ghost Town” takes over Örebro Castle, both indoors and outdoors. Over the years, the castle has featured spectacular sound and light shows projected onto the stone facade, giant Mexican skulls, ghost stories, a ghost disco with Lilla spöket Laban, and much, much more.

The castle shop is located in the entrance tower, and this is where you purchase your admission ticket. It also offers beautiful home decor items, fun toys, books, and much more, often related to one of the castle’s exhibitions.

The History of the Castle
Örebro Castle dates back to the 14th century and has served over the years as everything from a fortress and a prison to a royal residence. The castle has also been the site of many historically significant events. In early 1540, Gustav Vasa proclaimed the hereditary monarchy from here. In 1810, when the Riksdag meeting in Örebro elected the French marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte as heir to the Swedish throne (Karl XIV Johan), the royal family naturally resided at Örebro Castle.
Örebro Castle has served as the residence of the governor of Örebro County since 1766. And yes, the current governor, Lena Rådström Baastad, also lives at the castle. A couple of times a year, the governor hosts an open house or an Advent coffee gathering. Keep an eye out for current dates in the County Administrative Board’s program.
