2. Skåle Cliff
The view of the deep forests from Skåle Klintis magnificent. The summit is nearly 200 meters above sea level and 100 meters above the surrounding landscape. There are several trails leading up, the longest of which is about five kilometers. Along the way, you’ll pass several boulder fields, which were once shorelines formed when the inland ice sheet melted and large parts of Närke lay at the bottom of the Yoldia Sea. Once you reach the top, you’ll have a magnificent view of Lake Tisaren, located right nearby.

3. Harge Headlands
The high cliffs atHarge uddar, south of Askersund, offer a completely different kind of view. Here, it is Lake Vättern that provides the scenery. Steep cliffs and wind-swept pine trees, combined with the bare rock, almost create the feeling of being by the sea. A 2.5-kilometer hiking trail runs through the area, and there are both picnic areas and wind shelters here. If you want to hike further, you can continue along the lake and into theKlåvuddenNature Reserve right next door.
4. Rövarbro Fort
There are plenty of scenic viewpoints in the Kilsbergen mountains. Some of them, such as Rusakulan, are very popular. Others are less well-known. The latter category includesRövarbro Skanson the border with Värmland. The evocative name is enhanced by the view of Rövarviken as you make your way up. After a short walk toward the summit, you’ll come upon the ruins of an ancient fortress. Even though the fortress isn’t always easy to see, the view of Lake Lilla Noren is all the more enjoyable.

5. Kindle
Greater heights and longer trails await those who head north to theKindla Nature Reserve. Just southwest of Kopparberg, in Örebro County’s largest wilderness area, there are nearly 15 kilometers of hiking trails and several scenic overlooks. The highest point in the Kindla area lies 426 meters above sea level, over 100 meters higher than the highest point of Kilsbergen. And as if the elevation itself weren’t enough, there is also an eleven-meter-high observation tower here that offers a magnificent view of Bergslagen’s seemingly endless forests.
6. Tarsta Castle
Tarborg is an ancient fortress that is much easier to spot than Rövarbro Skans. A 300-meter-long stone wall surrounds a mountaintop that offers sweeping views to the west. The wall is several meters high in places and is surrounded by the remains of two additional walls. The fortress, which is more than a thousand years old, served as a gathering place during times of unrest and as a center of power for local kings. From the parking lot, it’s a little over a kilometer’s walk up to the fortress. Be sure to bring a map, as there are no signs in some places.
