If, on the other hand, you want to enjoy your picnic in an interesting spot and soak up a bit of history while you’re at it, head north from Örebro. Did you know that Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, the great lord of the manor in the 17th century, had a castle outside Örebro?Kägleholmwas a magnificent little hunting lodge on an island in Lake Väringen, nestled in the grand forests of Käglan. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in a fire in the early 18th century, and today only the ruins of the basement remain.

Let your imagination take you back to the era of Swedish imperial power and the grand parties the count is said to have held here, all while you slowly work your way through the contents of your picnic basket.
