Just south of Örebro, you’ll find wonderful sights and local culinary experiences—perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway. Here are a few suggestions for trips that combine great food with beautiful scenery!

1. Hike up Skåle Klint

Just 40 minutes from downtown Örebro lies theSkåle Klint Nature Reserve, a classic destination for day trips with forests perfect for getting lost in. The cliff offers a stunning view—it rises 195 meters above sea level and a full 95 meters above the surface of Lake Tisaren.

2. Coffee break at Go Glass

After a couple of hours of hiking in Skåle, you’re sure to be craving ice cream. How lucky, then, that Hjortkvarn—known for its summer-only ice cream mecca,Go Glass—is right next door. Here you’ll find over 50 flavors of Italian gelato and sorbet that can turn any visitor into an ice cream devotee. The generous ice cream servings are almost as filling as a full lunch!

3. Enjoy the surroundings of Boo Castle

After the ice cream break, the tour continues a few kilometers to the next destination: Boo Castle. The castle was built in the late 19th century using bricks that were manufactured at its own brickworks. Today, Boo Castle is owned and managed by the Hamilton family through Boo Estate. The estate primarily organizes hunting and fishing trips, but also offers accommodations for rent.

4. Enjoy a delicious meal at Boo Natur

Right next to Boo Castle is Boo Natur, the restaurant featured in the White Guide. How does tender, sweet, salt-baked celeriac drizzled with spruce oil sound? Or slow-roasted leek, oyster mushrooms, and truffles? Delicious—and exciting! Boo Natur’s menu varies according to seasonal ingredients and a spirit of experimentation. Be sure to make a reservation to guarantee a spot!

They also have a few rooms for overnight guests, so if you’re looking for a weekend getaway in a manor house setting, you’d be wise to stay the night after dinner. The next morning, breakfast awaits—and that, too, is a culinary experience like no other.

5. Take a stroll through Brevens Bruk

Before wrapping up your staycation, take the opportunity to enjoy one more nature experience in the local area.Brevens Bruk, a well-preserved and beautiful industrial site, is just a short 15-minute drive from Boo Natur. In many ways, the site is more reminiscent of the ironworks of Uppland than those of Bergslagen. For example, this is wherethe Ringsberg Trailbegins, which runs along the shore of Lake Sottern. It can be turned into an 18-kilometer loop and offers lovely swimming spots along the way.
