In the paper-making town of Frövi, just north of Örebro, the art of papermaking is taken a step further. Here, the Frövifors Paper Mill Museum showcases industrial settings, machinery, and exhibitions all centered around the theme of paper. The museum’s hours, admission prices, and visitor information can be found on their website.
A nostalgic village
If you continue your trip to Nostalgibyn, located between Frövi and Fellingsbro, you’ll take a trip back in time to the era of Elvis, rocket cheese, and swing skirts. Here you can stroll through an authentic, recreated 1950s-style village. At Babsan’s Café, you can enjoy a smörgåsbord, a cheese sandwich, or a coffee break with coffee served in period-appropriate cups. Upbeat music plays from the jukebox, and the retro shop has everything for nostalgics and vintage lovers. Opening hours and more information are available on Nostalgibyn’s Facebook page.

From the 1950s to the 1500s…
On an island in Lake Väringen liethe ruins of Kägleholm Castle, a historic site purchased and named by Gustav Vasa. When Count Magnus de la Gardie inherited Kägleholm, he rebuilt it into a magnificent castle with its own harbor and church. Today, only ruins remain, but the exciting history lives on within the walls. Descend into the underground and imagine what life at the castle might have been like here several hundred years ago.

Medieval churches and modern shrimp sandwiches
Right next door is Ödeby Church, one of the Swedish Church’s summer churches. The medieval church is open to visitors on weekends. Another beautiful, historically significant church is Glanshammar Church, which was built as early as the 12th century. Here you’ll find three of Närke’s runestones—and there’s reportedly a runestone embedded somewhere near the entrance.

Summer coffee break at Norra Ässundet
End your day trip with a stop at Norra Ässundet. Here you’ll find a lovely swimming spot, a small pier, and a summer café serving Örebro’s most famous shrimp sandwiches.
