1. Paddle andhave lunch in the great outdoors
The Svartån River winds its way like a blue vein through the heart of Örebro. By canoe, you can paddle from the castle to the mouth of Lake Hjälmaren (or upstream in the other direction if you prefer). Rent a canoe from the Örebro Canoe Club and head for the Oset Nature Reserve and Rynningeviken Bay, right next to the shore of Lake Hjälmaren. Here you can make your first stop and recharge with a locally sourced lunch. The restaurant Naturens hus is located in the nature reserve, and you can park your canoe right next to it. They often use local ingredients and offer both traditional dishes and innovative flavors.

2. Let your feet do the walking —and stay comfortably at a hotel
Swap the water for hiking and memorable nature experiences. The Bergslagsleden trail stretches a full 280 kilometers and consists of 17 different stages. These stages also make it possible to find your favorite section, no matter your circumstances. If spending the night in a wind shelter or sleeping under the stars isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d like to spend the evening at First Camp Ånnaboda with dinner and an evening swim in Lake Ånnabosjön? In that case, the next day could start with stage 9 or 10, both of which have Ånnaboda as their hub.
For a 2- or 3-day hike, we recommend following the STF’s marked trails that run along the Bergslagsleden. Hike from Lekhyttan via Ånnaboda, continuing on to the charming wooden town of Nora, which you can reach via a connecting trail from the stage destination Pershyttan.

3. Bike to Stora Hjortstorp Farm
Can’t get enough of outdoor activities? Probably not. Hop on your bike and pedal out to Stora Hjortstorp Farm. Örebro is often ranked as one of Sweden’s best cities for cycling, and there are several nature reserves close to the city center. For example, there’s Myrö in the northern part of Oset and Rynningeviken. Here you’ll find the restaurant Stora Hjortstorps gård. Grab lunch and enjoy the rural tranquility with cows grazing right next to the farm.

4.Experience the unique charm of Katrinelund by Lake Hjälmaren
Back to the shores of Lake Hjälmaren. Our final tip is Katrinelund Inn, just about 20 minutes from downtown Örebro. Fields, meadows, and forests surround the blue waters of Lake Hjälmaren—and this is the view you’ll enjoy when you stay at Katrinelund. Here you can enjoy the local specialty, the freshly caught Hjälmar goose, which the chefs transform into something truly special. If you’re feeling energetic, there are plenty of activities to choose from, both at the inn and in the surrounding area.
