3 miniature worlds in the Örebro region

Published March 17, 2022 / Updated April 16, 2026
Miniatures have fascinated people throughout history. In the Örebro region, there are three miniature worlds, all centered around railways. These are worlds where you can lose yourself in skillfully crafted representations of reality and discover details that tell their own stories.

A miniature version of Hallsberg

When it comes to trains, where better to start than in Hallsberg? Adjacent to Bergööhuset is a massive miniature world depicting Hallsberg’s rail yard and its surroundings. The model is constantly being expanded and will be 50 meters long, making it one of the largest in the country when completed. The level of detail is incredible; you’ll immediately recognize the area—not least because the very spot where the model railway is located is included in the model.

Mälardalen in Örebro

At Tekniska Kvarnen in Örebro, you’ll find the Mälardalen region as a giant-scale miniature world. It was created to coincide with the opening of the Mälarbanan railway in 1997 and takes you to Örebro, Arboga, Köping, Enköping, and other places along the line. In total, there are over 120 meters of track and plenty of small scenes, ranging from grazing cows, windmills, cars, and red cottages to detailed depictions of the stations along the route.

But Tekniska Kvarnen is much more than just a model railway. The old mill building in Karlslund offers plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained for hours on end.

The Kingdom of Kungsör

The Miniature Kingdom in Kungsör takes things a step further. This 170-square-meter kingdom consists of a model railroad set in a miniature world, stretching from Boden in the north to the Mälardalen region in the south. The Globe Arena, City Hall, and other landmarks from the capital coexist with the Steam Hotel, the skyscraper, and other parts of Västerås, Gävle, and Eskilstuna—to name just a few of the cities featured on the model. If you have a keen eye, you can even spot none other than Leif GW Persson inspecting a crime scene!

What about Örebro? Well, construction of the city was completed in 2023. Wadköping is now a reality, as is an exact replica of Örebro Castle and Svampen. The little kingdom is open on weekends and during the summer.

The model railway in Hallsberg is being expanded and will be a full 50 meters long.
