Art in every corner of the city

Art comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s on a building wall, other times it’s a popcorn machine. Or why not in the form of a giant park bench? There’s a wide variety of public art to discover in Örebro—and even an app to help you find it all.

OpenArt – Art for Everyone in the Heart of the City

OpenArt 2026 will be the tenth edition. Over the years, hundreds of artworks have brightened up the city center and given thousands of visitors the opportunity to experience art in Örebro.

There are certainly more than just a handful of galleries throughout Örebro County. Here, you can visit as many as 42 (at the time of writing). Together, they offer a wide variety of art to discover and experience. Why not head out on a gallery safari using the list below?

Go on an art excursion

If you’ve developed a taste for art, there’s more to discover throughout the county. How about a former slag heap, a brewery district, and an old mine? Art can be found where you least expect it.

Hallsberg

Upstairs in the Bergööska House, you’ll find the reception hall, which has now been converted into an exhibition space. Here you’ll find art by Carl and Karin Larsson, as well as exhibitions about Karin Larsson and her artistic career, the history of the Bergöö family, and the Hallsberg straw hat factory.

Karin Larsson was born in Örebro and grew up in Hallsberg.

Nora

Half an hour from Örebro lies the charming wooden town of Nora, where the Bryggeriet neighborhood is a must-visit destination on the art scene. Here you’ll find a variety of arts and crafts and cultural experiences—brasswork, glass art, and a textile workshop. Don’t miss the first weekend in September, when the annual art and culture festival Ljusstråk genom Nora bergslag takes place.

Kumla

The neighboring town of Kumla also offers a variety of art. The most striking attraction is Konst på hög, a sculpture park located on the enormous slag heap known as Kvarntorpshögen. It has been named Sweden’s most unusual attraction—and if you visit the slag heap, you’ll understand why.

Ställberg

Once upon a time, it was Europe’s deepest iron ore mine. Today, it is undergoing a complete transformation into a creative hub. The old chambers of the Ställberg Mine are now filled with cultural, social, and experimental events, and the mine’s industrial history is literally embedded in its walls. Ställberg Mine is located an hour and a half’s drive north of Örebro and is a place that must be discovered and experienced.
