The mushroom’s unique, 58-meter-tall silhouette is clearly visible as you pass through the northern parts of Örebro. So it’s easy to spot, whether you’re planning to enjoy the view of Örebro from above or just happen to glance over while you’re filling up or charging your electric car at the gas station right next door.

Restaurant Skybar Svampen serves coffee and pastries as well as ice cream, and offers its popular lunch buffet every day. The classic mushroom soup is a staple, along with herring, salads, a variety of dishes, and something sweet to go with your coffee. The restaurant is, of course, also open during evening events.

From time to time, you can enjoy live music and other events at a lofty height—58 meters up, to be exact. And in the evening, the view of the city is truly something special.
The perfect place to take a break
If you’re driving through Örebro and looking for a great spot to recharge your batteries (in both senses of the word), Svampen is just perfect. It’s right next to the gas station where you can charge or refuel your car. Right next to a popular playground with plenty of green space. And it has a mini-golf course with a snack bar.
An icon since 1958
The "Mushroom" was inaugurated in 1958 and quickly became one of Örebro’s most recognizable landmarks. The water tower holds a full nine million liters of water and was built simply to meet the rapidly growing city’s increased need for drinking water.
It was Sune Lindström, chief architect at the Water Engineering Office, who designed the tower with its characteristic mushroom shape. The shape was not only a smart design, but also innovative from an aesthetic standpoint. How was the actual construction carried out? First, the cap was built on the ground and then, as the base was completed, it was hoisted higher and higher into the sky.
