42 kilometers of varied scenery
What is Örebro’s most popular bike trail? Most people would probably say “Hemfjärden runt.” For over thirty years, this 42-kilometer trail around the western part of Lake Hjälmaren has offered Örebro residents and visitors wonderful experiences amid varied natural scenery.
The trail begins at Slussen in Örebro and follows the north bank of the lower Svartån River to the water park and the café and restaurant Naturens hus. Continue across Lillån and on to Rynningeviken. Feel free to stop and enjoy the beautiful view of Hemfjärden before continuing via Rinkaby Church to Glanshammar. Be sure to visit the picturesque Glanshammar Church before continuing past the large Iron Age burial ground in Skävesund to Norra Ässundet and its summer café.

Coffee break at Ässundet's summer café
It’s time for a break! Maybe you’ll try Norra Ässundet’s famous shrimp sandwiches. Or perhaps you’ll settle for an ice cream. Take a moment to enjoy the view of the lake before boarding the M/F Åbäket bike ferry for the short crossing over to Ässön.
After your walk on Ässön and the bridge back to the mainland, maybe it’s time for a swim? There’s a great swimming spot at Hjälmarebaden, so take advantage of it. Once you’re out of the water, you can choose to continue around Hemfjärden back to Örebro or head east on the Katrinelundsleden trail.

A bike stop at a harbor restaurant or bakery
If Örebro is your destination, the route takes you back past the beautiful oak groves of Ekeby Almby, Hjälmarsberg Farm, the Oset Bird Sanctuary , and Rynningeviken. The final stretch goes through the marina, past Skebäcksbron, and finally reaches Slussen. Perhaps you’ll choose to end the ride a few hundred meters early for a pleasant evening at Hamnkrogen? Or why not celebrate your completed miles with something delicious from the Gamla Örebro restaurant in Wadköping?
