Karintorp Farm Store and the Dovra Lakes

Granelund's farms and three nature reserves

A 15-minute drive from Karintorps lies another family-owned farm— Granelunds Odlingar. They offer pick-your-own vegetables and flowers in season. The process is simple: grab a harvesting basket and a knife, follow the instructions on the farm, weigh your vegetables, and pay for your harvest when you’re done. Simple, fun, and delicious, of course.

After picking your own produce and enjoying the harvest, you can continue your outing to the three nature reserves: Nalavibergs Ekäng, Oxaryggen, and Broby Äng. Here you’ll find a three-kilometer hiking trail that winds through oak pastures and beautiful groves.

Smultrongården and the Dyltas Trail

North of Örebro lies Smultrongården, a real hidden gem, as many Örebro residents would say. The 18th-century building combines interior design details, clothing, porcelain, and other fine items with a café and restaurant. Adam’s luxurious shrimp sandwich is Smultrongården’s most popular dish—and we can see why!

Combine a lunch break at Smultrongården with a ride along the Dyltaslingan, a beautiful 38-kilometer bike route. You’ll get to experience the rolling countryside of Närke and see Axberg Church, which dates back to the Middle Ages.

Lanna Book Café and Garphyttan National Park

A really good book can be the perfect companion for a cozy coffee break! At Lanna Book Café in Vintrosa, you can enjoy coffee and lunch featuring treats made from local ingredients and browse through the wide selection of books. Just a stone’s throw away is Garphyttan National Park, known for its flower meadows, which are especially beautiful in early spring.

Berga Farm and the Lekeberga River

In a newly built barn at Berga Farm, you’ll find one of the Örebro region’s premier shops for locally produced delicacies. Stock up on your monthly supply of organic eggs and enjoy some homemade ice cream in the sun at the farm café. Or pick up a few treats and finish with a picnic in the beautiful Lekeberga-Sälven Nature Reserve, located right next door.

Little Väsby and Riseberga Abbey

Just a 15-minute drive from Berga Farm is another charming spot to shop for locally produced goods: Lilla Väsby’s farm shop. Lilla Väsby is a farm run by Ida and Arvid Andersson. They are the fifth generation on the farm and continue to run it with love and respect for the animals and nature.

The farm shop offers the farm’s own products, including beef, lamb, lambskins, smoked meats, various types of sausages and hamburgers, and a small selection of the farm’s own eggs. They also carry a wide range of products from other local producers in the county.

Just ten minutes away are the ruins of Riseberga Abbey, an interesting historical site that’s even better when you bring along some local treats from a nearby country store.

The Mill and Good Rooms

At the home decor store Bruket in Kumla, you’ll find just about everything you need to add a touch of luxury to both your everyday life and special occasions. Browse through the home decor items, then head over to Goda Rum—one of Kumla’s most popular eateries—for coffee and pastries or lunch.

Rusakulan and Aunt Green

Perched 250 meters above the flat Närke plain, Rusakulan offers a majestic view. Is this perhaps Örebro’s answer to the Lion Rock in the Disney movie? On a clear day, it’s said you can see as many as 21 church steeples from Rusakulan. If you don’t see all the steeples, don’t be disappointed—the surrounding nature is also worth seeing and is best experienced by hikingthe 9-kilometer loop trail around Blankhult. If you’d prefer a shorter hike, there’s the 3-kilometer Skogatorpsklinten trail. Finish your hike with a coffee break atTant Grön, a green and cozy oasis offering a delightful mix of food, sweets, knick-knacks, and plants.

Stjernsund Castle and the interior design of Stockhammar

The stately Stjernsund Castle, just south of Askersund, with its beautiful surroundings, is well worth a visit. The castle is open to the public during the summer, but the nearby Stjernsund Farm is open year-round. The elegant farm shop sells both the farm’s own eggs and other locally produced delicacies.

Near the castle grounds, you’ll find another old barn that has been given a new lease on life and has become a popular destination. Stockshammar Kitchen Design and Interiors offers everything from brand-new kitchens to small interior decor items. By the way, did you know that Askersund has the most cafés per capita in all of Närke? Continue your outing to the classic Café Tutingen and pop in for a coffee break. There, you can also try to figure out the story behind its curious name.

Tiveds Coffee Roastery and Tiveden National Park

Just a stone's throw from TivedenNational Park lies Tiveds Lanthandel och krog, where you can enjoy a delicious meal and drink on the spot and pick up some treats from the deli. Stone-oven-baked focaccia, rye bread with beef brisket, shrimp, and hearty salads. Recharge your batteries so you can explore more of the beautiful surrounding nature.

Local sourdough bakery and Kvarntorpshögen

Lokal Sourdough Bakery is located in an old wooden church in Kumla. Here, they bake sourdough bread, crispbread, and butter cookies. They grind their own flour, make award-winning sourdough pasta, and sell their own beer. Local ingredients are at the heart of Lokal’s philosophy, and they also sell delicacies from other nearby artisan food producers. Stop by Lokal, pick up some freshly baked treats, and then head to Kumla’s top attraction— Kvarntorpshögen. Enjoy your picnic at the top of the hill while taking in the unique works of art.

Bolinder's Farm Store and Öby Hill

Just a stone's throw from Odensbacken, you'll find Bolinder's farm shop. Here you'll find potatoes and eggs from the farm, carrots, jams, juices, flour, potato chips, and home decor. In the fall, you can pick sunflowers, and in the winter, you can pick up a lovely Christmas basket filled with local delicacies.

If you happen to be passing through in early spring when the sun begins to warm the air, stop by Öby Hill to experience one of the Örebro region’s most unique natural phenomena. Hundreds of snakes spend the winter in the hill’s hollows and tunnels. When spring arrives, they make their way out onto the slope where the sun slowly warms their cold bodies. And they like to lie very, very close together. If you’ve ever wondered where the term “snake pit” comes from, you’ll find the answer here. In other words, not for those afraid of snakes.

Ebba's Garden and Katrinelund Beach

In Stora Mellösa, on the outskirts of Örebro, a traditional garden center has been transformed into something as cozy and welcoming as Ebba’s Garden. The garden shop, which also serves as an ice cream café and pizzeria, offers flowers, home décor, gifts, pots, and other lovely and practical items—as well as delicious ice cream and wood-fired pizzas, of course. Round off your shopping and coffee break at Ebba’s with a refreshing dip in Lake Hjälmaren atthe Katrinelund swimming area.

In Latorpsbruk, just outside Vintrosa, you’ll find Emmabuketten’s flower stand. Stop by to pick up some wonderfully fresh and beautiful bouquets right from the stand—the perfect gift to bring along. While you’re in the area, take the opportunity to make a full-day excursion and visit the Tysslingen Nature Reserve, one of Central Sweden’s finest bird lakes. Go birdwatching or simply enjoy the tranquility of nature.
