Published July 14, 2020 / Updated April 17, 2026
Cycle with the wind in your hair and a great rhythm in your pedaling—a perfect way to explore more of Örebro. The bike trails in and around our city take you out into nature on beautiful gravel roads, interspersed with the occasional path. Along the way, you’ll find farm shops, swimming spots, and cozy cafes that invite you to take a relaxing break. Here are 11 tips for bike trails in and around Örebro.

The City Loop with stops in nature

The City Loop is 10 kilometers long and takes you through the heart of Örebro, from the castle and the bustling city center to cobblestone neighborhoods and scenic rest stops. Wadköping’s cafés and restaurants offer local delicacies, while Naturens Hus, with its peaceful setting, makes the dining experience truly special.

If you’d like to continue a bit further, cycle on past Oset and the vast wetlands of Rynningeviken to Myrö, at the far end of the nature reserve. Stop here for a lunch with a local touch at the rural Stora Hjortstorp Farm.

The Water Trail and Coffee Break at Naturens hus

An easy cycling loop for the whole family. You’ll head from Örebro Castle along the Svartån River to the lovely gravel walking and biking paths in the popular nature reserves of Oset and Rynningeviken on the western shore of Lake Hjälmaren. On this route, you’ll avoid cars almost entirely, but you may need to watch out for plenty of birds, cows, and Örebro residents out for a stroll.

The Lindbacka Loop with a stop at the mill

The Lindbacka Loop is 17 kilometers long and follows the winding Svartån River through the beautiful manor house setting of Karlslund. The trail turns around at the old Lindbacka mill. Here you’ll find a deli, a vintage and antique shop, hand-roasted specialty coffee, and a place to enjoy a coffee break. Top off your trip with a coffee break and perhaps a dip at one of the outdoor swimming spots: Karlslund’s brick bath or Hästhagen’s pier bath.

The Slätten Loop and Lunch in the Park

The Slätten Loop is 47 kilometers long and initially follows the same route as the Lindbacka Loop. It then continues out onto the Närke Plain and skirts the Kilsbergen hills. The loop passes two cozy eateries—Tant Grön and Lanna Bokcafé —so plan to stop for coffee at one and lunch at the other, and you’ll have plenty of energy for a full day of cycling.

The Smultronslingan is 48 kilometers long and perfect for those who enjoy cycling along rolling fields and through charming villages. At the start of the bike ride, you’ll also pass Svampen, where you can enjoy a coffee break 58 meters above the ground. The Smultronslingan then continues north into the countryside and passes the Långensjöarna lakes, where Solliden is located and offers, among other things, a summer café and a hotel/hostel. Where the route turns south, you’ll find the cozy café Smultrongården.

North of Örebro lies Lake Lången, which features a great swimming spot and several beautiful cultural sites. The bike loop around the lake is a pleasant ride of just over 30 kilometers with an elevation gain of 90 meters. Along the way, you’ll pass the beautiful Kåviängen and Axberg Church—and if you’re in the mood for a swim, Kårstaö is just a short detour away!

Along the bike path you’ll also find Solliden, the Swedish Church’s retreat center, beautifully situated next to the lake. Here you can enjoy simple, homemade, organic dishes and locally produced ice cream from En får tacka and Lyckliga hönan.

There is also a swimming area at Solliden.

The Dyltas Loop

The trail takes you north through Örebro and out into the countryside around Axberg and Ölmbrotorp, mostly on paved roads with little traffic. At the turnaround point, you’ll find the cozy café Smultrongården. The Dyltaslingan trail is not marked.

In the summer, you can enjoy the bike loop around Tysslingen. It starts at Karlslund Manor and takes you 32 flat kilometers out onto the Närke Plain and back.
